　　On the three large projector screens are the latest reports on the U.S. Presidential election. Red represents Bush's votes; blue represents Kerry's. Although Bush is in the lead, the shift in numbers still has Americans nervous about the outcome. People discuss the elction with each other, sharing their input on the deadlocked race. Americans in Taiwan have also sent in their absentee votes to support their respective candidates. The crew at AIT chose to face the tension with happy smiles. They wear scarves and ties with the star-spangled banner pattern. Security, however, is alert to any signs of a terrorist attack. The National Police Administration has even dispatched a team to blend in with AIT staff and assist with security checks. 　　Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mark Chen said no matter who is to be the U.S. president, it won't affect Taiwan too much. U.S. relations with Taiwan will continue to be stable. Councils of National Security Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense have held meetings to discuss the development of Taiwan and U.S. relations after the presidential election. ＜ 外交的出擊 新添邦交國 ＞
　　The efforts and hard work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid off when the official documents were signed. On Wednesday morning, the Ministry announced that the Republic of Vanuatu had officially established diplomatic ties with Taiwan, becoming the ROC's 27th ally. superPRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA CHEN SHUI-BIAN (On November 3rd of this year, while Americans were voting in their presidential election, we officially established diplomatic ties with the Republic of Vanuatu. We are very happy.) Vanuatu is situated between Australia and the Fiji Islands, and is made up of 83 small islands. About 100,000 square kilometers in size, it is roughly one-third of Taiwan's size and has a population of 200,000 people. In the past a British and French colony, it declared independence in 1980. Because Vanuatu is rich in sea resources, fishing boats from Taiwan have often sailed there in recent years. Trade between Taiwan and Vanuatu stands at an estimated US$ 700,000 per year. Vanuatu is also within cruising distance of Tahiti. 　　A push of the bowling ball represents the candidates' resolution to defeat corruption in the legislature. On Wednesday, the DPP Taipei County Joint Campaigning Center was established. Its mission is to send 14 candidates into the legislature by outdoing the rest of the 50 candidates in the election. As to concern over the high number of candidates, interim Taipei County Magistrate 林錫耀 expressed confidence. But these oranges aren't just cute-looking; they are delicious as well. The sweet heart-shaped oranges are carefully grown in a controlled environment, requiring a lot of hard work on the part of the farmers. The first heart-shaped orange was successfully produced in July, and fruit farmers came up with the idea of stamping the orange's skin with a special character, making them very popular with young people. Although each orange costs around 100 n.t., the farmers have decided to only grow 1000 of them, because orders are coming in at too fast a rate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 　　一顆顆吊在樹上，好像糖果的粉紅色愛心盒，路過的人都以為是裝飾樹上做造型。仔細一看，裡面大有學問。原本長得圓滾滾的柳丁，在心型盒子裡，也變成了心型的柳丁。原來這是雲林古坑鄉果農想出來的新點子。而且成功率相近七成。但別看心型柳丁這可愛模樣，以為不怎麼好吃，一吃才知道箇中驚奇。這樣甜美的心型柳丁，除了小心栽種，在環境維護，果農更是煞費苦心。今年七月才種植成功的心型柳丁，果農還發揮巧思，讓外皮印上特殊的字樣。大受年輕人歡迎。雖然一顆心型柳丁，就要一百元，但是果農打算先試種一千顆，因為現在的訂單已經接不完了。
