＜ 林信義閣揆?財經和風格 ＞
　　Is Lin Xin-yi the new Premier? President Chen only answered this question with a smile. Word on the street is that Lin will no longer be merely an economic advisor without the power to act. Instead, as Premier, he will have the power to implement his policies. At present, this is just a rumor and the blues and greens are expressing very different opinions on the possiblity. Lin has not left a very deep public impression. From taking the position of Minister of Finance, in 2000, to a member of the Vice-Premier's economic advisory council in 2002, to Convener of the President's Economic Advisory council in 2004, he has been the same stuffed suit, with the same strong and stiff air about him. After bringing China Motors back from the brink of bankruptcy, Lin was a hot pick for Premiership from the moment he stepped into the political arena. As rumors about him began to fly, the Office of the President was quick to stress that President Chen is still considering candidates for various cabinet positions and has not made a final decision. At this point, the identity of the next Premier is still a mystery.

　　National Defense Minister 李傑 was unwilling to comment on rumors that he will retain his current position in the next Cabinet. Rumors were rife on Wednesday that Li was about to resign over the arms purchase bill, but on Friday afternoon, Li will be paying a visit to the Legislative Yuan in another attempt to get the bill passed. Education Minister 杜正勝 was also unwilling to comment about his future in the Cabinet. Apart from Li and Du, Foreign Affairs Minister 陳唐山 and Council for Cultural Affairs Minister 陳其南 are also rumored to be staying on in the next Cabinet. All four have been low-key recently, and with the en masse resignation of the Cabinet less than two months away, the identities of the members of the next Cabinet will be revealed soon enough.

＜ 元旦的升旗 藍綠怎麼搞 ＞
　　In front of the Presidential Palace, workers are putting the finishing touches on stands and a stage for Saturday's New Year Flag Raising Ceremony. At this year's ceremony there won't be professional singers or Olympic athletes leading the national anthem. Instead, 10 pairs of couples with foreign spouses will be leading the song, displaying the new diversity in Taiwan's population. It is hoped that Taiwanese society will learn to accept an increasing number of foreign spouses and a new generation of Taiwanese children. At the same time, the KMT will be holding their own flag-raising ceremony at Chungshan Hall. They are calling it "Taiwan's Hope: Sending off 2004 and welcoming 2005." So when the new year comes, you can choose your own style of cheering on Taiwan.

＜ 元旦新措施 不能不知道 ＞
　　Beginning on January 1st, residents of Taipei, Jilong, Xinzhu, Taichung City and County, Jiayi, Tainan, Yilan, and Kaohsiung must separate their garbage into categories before throwing it out. A three month trial period will begin in January, and fines between 1200 NT and 6000 NT will be assessed beginning on April 1st for unsorted garbage. Television stations will also be changing channels on January 1st. Channels 2 to 25 will be family channels. CTS and its subsidiary education channel will be moved to channels 11 and 12. In the past, no one knows whether the soy bean milk they drink or the corn they eat has been genetically modified. But beginning on January 1st, any food or beverage that has been genetically modified will be labeled as such. Also, 20 NT per day parking fees will be charged for scooters parked onTaipei's 南陽 Street. The ten major municipal hospitals of Taipei City will also be merging into one hospital with ten branches. Now, services for nicotine addiction problems will cost 400 NT less than before. Fees for intra-post office account transfers will be decreasing by5 NT per transaction, and HIV tests will be integrated into pre-natal checkups. Employer contributions into employee labor insurance plans in disaster categories will also be decreasing by .27%.

　　一月一號開始，倒垃圾不能再像這樣什麼都不分，扔了就算。包括台北基隆新竹台中縣市，嘉義台南宜蘭和高雄縣市等十個城市，都強制實施垃圾分類，倒垃圾之前，民眾必須分好資源，一般垃圾和廚餘，三個月宣導期，四月一號開罰，不分清楚，會被罰1200到6000元。除了垃圾分清楚，電視頻道一號開始大搬風，2到25頻道是適合全家觀賞的頻道，其中華視主頻以及教育頻道，就在十一和十二台。過去喝的豆漿，吃的玉米是不是基因改造，不但沒人知也沒人管，現在所有基因改造食品都要標示。台北市南陽街機車退出騎樓，元旦開始收費，每天二十元。還有台北市立醫院大變革，原先十家市立醫院，改制成為一家聯合醫院，一家就診，十家服務醫療改變還包括戒菸補助每次提高到400元。省錢的還包括，郵局局內轉帳，手續費降為五元，孕婦產前檢查，增加愛滋病篩檢，還有勞保職業災害項目，雇主負擔比例降為0.27%。

＜ 六歲葉佳妮 獲救回台灣 ＞
　　6 year old 葉佳妮 clung to her grandfather as she sobbed. Crying is a normal reaction for children, but for Yeh, it was a release of all the horrors she had endured over the past several days. On Christmas Eve, Yeh flew with her parents from Suzhou to Phuket. Yeh was playing with her mother on the beach on the 26th when the tsunami struck, separating mother from daughter. Yeh managed to cling onto a tree for a day and night before she was discovered by rescue personnel. Yeh was unable to communicate with the hospital staff due to language barriers, but wrote down her grandfather's telephone number in Taiwan, enabling her father to find her. Yeh's father remains in Phuket, hoping for word of his wife's whereabouts. Yeh has since returned to Taiwan and is in the care of relatives. Finally able to get a restful night of sleep, now her biggest hope is that her missing mother can return home with her father.

　　小小的身軀,緊抱著外公,六歲的葉佳妮在看到親人的那一煞那,流下淚來，哭泣對小孩來說，是最自然的情緒反應，但對經歷海嘯恐懼的她來說，是幾天以來，所有壓力的釋放葉佳妮24號跟著爸爸媽媽從蘇州到普吉島玩，26號海嘯發生時，葉佳妮和媽媽正在PP島海邊玩耍，大浪衝來，衝散了母女，她就卡在椰子樹上超過了一天一夜,才被救難人員發現。堅強的葉佳妮在人生地不熟，語言不通的醫院，寫下了台灣外公的電話，才讓父親找到了她。現在佳妮的爸爸還在普吉島等候太太消息，葉佳妮先回台灣終於回家了，在家人照顧下，葉佳妮睡了幾天來最安穩的一覺，現在的她最希望的就是，失蹤的媽媽,能和爸爸一起回家.

＜ 城市大調查 花蓮最愛動 ＞
　　Early in the morning, Haulien's Hua Gang Shan Sports Park is full of people doing morning calisthenics, students getting in a quick ballgame before school, and mothers exercising on the grass. It really does seem that Haulien is a city where people like to exercise. It ranked first in a poll determining interest in exercise, and Governor Hsieh Shen Shan is an exercise lover, too. Not only does he swim in the mornings and jog regularly, he actively promotes exercise among the populace. However, the governor said that with 25% of the population being aboriginal people, many love to exercise, but many also love to drink, leading Hualien to rank 2nd out of 25 cities and counties surveyed for overweight people. The governor said he hoped the community's love for exercise would bring down the percentage of people who are overweight and make Hualien a truly healthy city.

　　花蓮的花岡山運動場，一大早聚集了做早操的民眾，球場上也有趕到學校上學前先熱身打球的學生，在一大片綠色草地上練槌球，是媽媽們比較喜歡的運動把握上班前時間趕緊運動，看起來，花蓮的居民的確都比較喜歡運動，在最喜歡運動的城市排行榜，排名第一位居榜首，包括縣長謝深山自己，也熱愛運動，不但參加早泳會還固定跑步，帶頭讓縣民動起來，不過，縣長說，花蓮縣人口結構四分之一都是原住民，雖然愛運動，但也愛喝酒，讓肥胖人口比例排名25個縣市中的第二名縣長說，希望因為縣民喜歡運動，能讓肥胖人口比例降低，讓花蓮縣真正變成一個健康的城市。

＜ 自行車警察 愛河邊成軍 ＞
　　They wear bicycle helmets and gloves. They carry walkie-talkies and their bikes have lights. These are the new bicycle police preparing to patrol the Love River tourist area. Passers by were shocked to see this strange sight because it was exactly what they were hoping for, and foreigners in the area have expressed their approval as well. It costs more than NT$12,000 to outfit one of these bicycles. Three officers patrol the area from 8am to 10pm, serving the community and guaranteeing public safety. From now on, Kaohsiung residents will be able to enjoy the beauty of the Love River in greater security.

　　戴著自行車專用帽和手套，車前有照明登，身上有無線電，擁有齊全的裝備，自行車觀光警察正式成軍了，他們的任務是前進愛河。政再愛河欣賞美景的民眾見到這樣的創舉感到不可思議，因為這正是他們心中的期盼，連外國人也說讚。一台自行車的配備超過了一萬兩千塊，三位自行車警察從早上八點巡守到晚上十二點，加強為民服務，讓治安更有保障。從今以後，高雄市民在美麗的愛河旁，更能愜意的喝咖啡欣賞美景了。

＜ 派出所年終 幫老人修屋 ＞
　　The group of volunteers arrived at the Hualien 吉安鄉 home of 90 year old veteran Mr. Tsai. At first, Mr. Tsai refused the help of the volunteers, but after they performed a song for him, Mr. Tsai finally acquiesced and let them into his home to clean. Mr. Tsai lives alone in this 5-ping room. His possessions lay strewn about. Not only is this building unfinished, but it has also caught on fire twice. In order to help Tsai have a happy new year, the volunteers from the police station came here to clean his home. Mr. Tsai begins to tell them stories from his past. The time flies by and in a short while, his home is clean and tidy, and gratitude and appreciation flow in his heart.

　　一群志工來到花蓮吉安鄉一位90歲蔡姓榮民的家中幫忙清掃，不過蔡姓榮民剛開始抗拒這一群志工的幫忙，還好志工們讓他唱了一首歌後終於能夠幫他進行打掃。90歲的蔡姓榮民只有一個人居住，就在不到五坪的房間內，東西是到處堆置，這一棟房子不但沒有完工，還曾失火兩次，為了幫助蔡姓榮民度過新年，花蓮吉安分局的派出所特別安排志工配合慈濟志工清掃。老人家自顧自的說著當年的故事，大家則是幫忙幹活。不一會兒，慈濟的志工加入，也讓清掃動作迅速不少。雖然老人家不說，但是相信能夠體會這一份心意。

　　It's hard to believe that you can find such a peaceful Tai-chi studio amid the hustle and bustle of Chung-hsiao E. Rd.! This group of professionals come here to study Tai-chi after work, and their teacher is none other than Dan Ming-shu, who won the gold medal for Taichi at the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998. Many of the busy, stressed-out professionals who come here say that after just a few classes, they feel much more relaxed and at peace. Dan Ming-Shu takes a relaxed approach to Tai-chi instruction which allows people without any exposure to it to gradually experience the fun of it. Taking a little time after work to practice Tai-chi, calm their spirits and strengthen their bodies may be just what many of today's busy professionals need to stay healthy.

　　在繁華的忠孝東路裡,有著這麼一塊清靜悠然的太極世界！下了班之後,這群上班族來到這裡學習太極拳，而這位打太極拳的人,正是98年曼谷亞運獲得太極拳金牌的詹明樹。他在這裡教導上班族打太極拳,很多壓力大,身體不舒服的上班族,上過幾堂課之後,都覺得整個人舒服多。詹明樹將太極拳的教學輕鬆化,讓完全沒學過太極拳的人循序漸進學習,享受打太極拳的樂趣。下班後打打太極拳,平靜自己的心靈,強化自己的身體機能,可以說是現代上班族養生的好方法。
